Coventry City Council have announced that a successful triage service is to be extended to Earlsdon.  The service has been running in Coventry since Christmas 2009 with the overall aim to reduce calls to ambulance services and admissions to A&E Departments. It is introduced in conjunction with the Safer Nights campaign – a programme to ensure that Coventry and Earlsdon are safe environments in which to socialise.

The triage (consisting of a nurse, technician and medical student within an ambulance) will start on Friday 3 September and run until New Year’s Eve. It will be available in Earlsdon from 10pm-11.30pm on busy weeks/weekends.

Views saught on proposed parking restrictions and taxi ranks – Earlsdon Residents

Earlsdon residents are being asked for their views on a set of proposed parking restrictions and taxi ranks.  A leaflet from Coventry City council has been delivered and highlights concerns about daytime and evening traffic. The proposed changes are to:

  • move all the taxi ranks to one side of the road (the side with the Royal Oak);
  • amending the times of the limited parking bays so that there will be no street parking after 10pm on Earlsdon Street (except taxis and buses).

A response to the proposals is needed by 25 August 2010 and further details can be obtained from trafficmanagement@coventry.gov.uk or on 024 7683 4209.

Not Just Jam and Jerusalem: Earlsdon Women’s Institute is born

The Earlsdon Women’s Institute’s first meeting took place at the Earlsdon Cottage, earlier today (Friday 11th June) and was attended by around 30 women and a roving reporter from BBC Radio Coventry. After the formalities had taken place (and we were handed the June newsletter), there was some discussion regarding where and when meetings would take place.

The main meetings would take place at St Barbara’s Church Hall in Rochester Road:

  • Thursday 8 July 2010, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm
  • Thursday 22 July 2010, from 2pm to 4 pm (although an alternative time of 1-3pm would be investigated).

No meetings would take place in August, but generally evening meetings would be on the second Thursday of each month, with daytime meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month.

As well as the main meetings, there are likely to be subgroups e.g. on various campaigns and these would take place at a variety of venues. Further details are given at the facebook page of    http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=125655604122972&v=wall&ref=ts

There will be a questionnaire for members asking about the type of events and activities wanted and fencing, belly dancing and sky diving were mentioned!  – exploding the traditional view of the Women’s Institute. I went along not knowing anyone and found everyone to be friendly and welcoming, and duly signed up! I wish the new W.I. every success.
